God Bless the Grandparents

…Beloved are the grandparents of children with diagnoses, medical complexities, and special needs.

…Beloved are the grandparents who have to see their grandchildren and children suffer.

…Beloved are the grandparents who show unconditional love and devotion.

Dear Grandparents of a child with a diagnosis,

There are so many things I would like to say to you.  As parents, while we remain on the frontline of the battle for our child with a disability, I know that you are back at the battalion, ready to step in when needed.  I imagine how hard it must be to know that there is only so much you can doI understand what it is like to see your child in pain, so your stifled urgency to help does not go unnoticed.  Please allow me to give you a little insight on what I do notice.

You are there for us, in good and bad times.  You sit in hospital waiting rooms with us, and the mere presence of you gives us comfort.  We know that we can ask for help if the need arises.    We know that when we call, you are there to listen.  Sometimes a shoulder to cry on, an ear to bend, or an embrace is worth a million bucks, and that is what you provide.  You spend time with our children and love them like they are your own, and make them feel special like grandparents do.  You spoil them with your love and devotion, and what parent could ask for more?  Often, we need someone to help remind us to not take ourselves so seriously, and put the humor back into our lives when times get tough.  It is comforting to feel that again.  Ever so often, we makes decisions as parents that you might disagree with, or would handle differently, but you trust God’s plan and give us the support we need which means the world.   There may be times when we needed a little financial boost, just to help us get by while the hospital bills are rolling in.  Unfortunately, we do make our own mistakes as parents, but you never say “I told you so,” rather you let God work His plan through us so that we become the best people he wants us to be.  Most importantly, you have prayed for our family, which teaches us the true power of prayer.  We see that you too, have pain and suffering, but you seal it in away in a blank envelope.   God hears your heart, and we will pray for you as well.

God bless all of the grandparents who love unconditionally.

Thank you, most especially to my parents, Linda and Emmett, as well as my In-Laws, Linda and Walter, for being the best grandparents to your grandchildren anyone could ever ask for.  I consider us very fortunate to have you in our lives.  God bless you and we love you so much!

HAPPY GRANDPARENTS’ DAY!!!

Our journey continues.

Lisa
